Miriam Smith Killed Dog For Chewing On Bible

Authorities have charged Miriam Smith, a South Carolina woman, with felony animal cruelty. After her nephew's dog chewed on her Bible, she hanged the animal from a tree with an electrical cord and burned its body. Animal control officers reported that Smith told them she killed a female dog named Diamond because it was a "devil dog." She worried it could harm neighborhood children. Authorities said bond wasn't immediately set for Smith and she is jailed in Spartanburg County after her weekend arrest. She faces 180 days to five years in prison if she is convicted. Authorities say the remains of the dog were found under a pile of grass with part of an electrical cord still around its neck.

Religious faith can be a wonderful quality, but this woman demonstrates just how dangerous a misinterpretation of such a belief can be. Her disregard for life and ignorant conviction resulted in the death of an innocent animal. All of life is sacred, and it is our responsibility as human beings to uphold this principle. Please sign this petition in order to help ensure that Smith is held accountable for her actions.

  2. I live in a fairly religious region myself, but this woman is just ridiculous (to put it nicely, haha.) I don't prescribe to any particular religion, but I can appreciate those who do. People that harm others because of it is unacceptable, though. It's just like the Christians that treat people of other faiths poorly. Don't they ever remember reading, "Love your neighbor as yourself." It's not, "Love your neighbor as yourself, but only if they're a Christian."

  3. I hear ya! Any philosophy that teaches that good people of other faiths are Hell bound is an unacceptable dogma as far as I'm concerned. Any god of such a religion should properly be renamed a demon unfit of praise, worship, and adoration.

So you also live in the Bible Belt? I live in the Ark-La-Tex region of north-east Texas,north-west Arkansas, and south-east Arkansas. It's insane around here. I used to live in Georgia and it's as bad there if not worse. lol

  4. I couldn't agree more! It creates hate and a misunderstanding of those of a different belief system. Instead of spreading love throughout the world, violence (in action or thought) often ensues. Unfortunately, history has repeated itself again and again in this aspect. If people cannot learn to accept and welcome those of different convictions, then there can never be peace.

  5. You're right. There will never be peace until people can learn to get along and stop viewing others as being "wrong" or "of the devil" so to speak.

Good people of other faiths burn in Hell regardless of how nice they might've been. Never mind that evangelical Christians have the highest divorces, incarceration rates, and out-of-wedlock child births. They'll be in Heaven while good moral people with a strong sense of family and community wind up in Hell because they choose to worship the god(s) of their own culture. What a demented mindset these fundie Christians have. It's absolutely deplorable.

Anyhow, feel free to leave a comment on my blog. It's gettin a bit heated in there right now. lol I love it.
